An XMF can be opened in most text editing software, when looking to change the material i.d.

You can either enter 'Material' in the search function or simply use fullscreen and the longest lines are usually the ones that carry the material assignment. If you have opened a CMF (compressed XMF), the file that you pull from your assets folder after the product has been submitted, then I'm not sure it can be edited in the same way.

These are my old submitted products. I just needed to change 1 material ID in one of them but none opens. I got notepad++ this is the view. I tried some xmf files sitting on my desktop not published they opened fast and all good.

What I do: Go to product page. Click edit product - click the file location in create mode - opens me the file with textures, xrf and xmf - right click edit with notepad taa taaa: _________________ Keodi. It looks like your notepad isn't set to read those characters, but I'm not sure you can edit a CMF anyway unless someone else knows how?

If you're adding it to another mesh that you made don't you have the original XMF of that to edit instead? The thing is, I am trying to use a hip rose i made a long time ago, and add it to a new skirt i made but the rose has material ID 7 in it which is the skin ID so when i add them together either skin will be colored or the rose will be skin color. I don't know what to do except to go back and make a similar mesh again. At least I still have the rose meshes just need to make the arrangement again but that one i made years ago looks real nice Thanks for all the info you two! _________________ CapnRon. It looks like you are opening a file that was already submitted to the IMVU server. All of the.xaf,.xmf,.xpf,.xrf,.xsf files are encrypted once they are submitted to the server. You can edit the files you export from whatever program you use to make the meshes (Blender, Max, SU) and save locally on your machine.

Those are not encrypted and you can change the material ID with Notepad or your favorite text editor before uploading to Create Mode. Hope this helps! _________________ ` The Capn has set sails. Not entirely sure why you're seeing those as IMVU doesn't (has never) used them; all the files are left in plain text format and collated together into the *.chkn files for distribution - it's the *.chkn file that's encrypted, not the contents (it's basically a ZIP file and works the same way with respect to the management and access of content). _________________ Want to make items for IMVU? Check your project folder again. You'll find plenty of encrypted files there. IMVU converts plain text (X) files to encrypted (C) files once the files have been uploaded and submitted and can be found in your 'IMVU Projects' folder. _________________ jazzKat. I don't know any other devs that do (aside from posts made here). Do you have a link to the info you're using to say that because, unless they've changed something in the last year or two, the way the system used to work was to basically package all product files into a folder, which upon upload was compressed and encypted like a ZIP or RAR archive file - it makes no sense to encrypt/decrypt individual files if they are in a container because it's quicker and less resource intensive (you can in fact open chkn, and before that *.cfl, files in WinZip or other app by changing it's file extension appropriately). If they've changed I'd be very interested in reading what they say they're doing as it might explain performance issue decreases compared to the 'old' system. _________________ Want to make items for IMVU? As you can see, the file named 'ZK_BuggyAcc1.XMF' (2nd from the bottom) is encrypted. It's the same for any 'X' files (XAFs, XRFs etc) that have been through the process of submission and resubmission.

That is why the web catty page stated file size shrinks when you edit a submitted product. It has always been this way for as long as I can remember with Create Mode, I don't know about the Previewer, I wasn't a mesher when I used to use that. _________________ EnglishTiger_33488793_ret. In the bog standard Cal3-D System they used to have to build a CFL by adding all the relevant *.X*F Files, in the correct order to produce a CFL that is basically a File Library (CFL is an abbreviation for Compressed File Library) containing Compressed Binary Format Files before submitting it to the Relevant System. Both the old Previewer and Create Mode are IMVU's Automated User Friendly Equivalent of that Manual Cal3d Process. When IMVU was first introduced what ended up in an IMVU-Cal3D CFL file were the Compressed Ascii Text *.X*F Files (something similar to WinZip was/is used to compress those files down, mainly by getting rid of most of the space wasting formatting that is used in their creation).

However, once you have submitted a product and go to it's product page and simply hit the 'Edit Settings' Link and then do nothing more than Hit the Submit Button when it pops up in Create Mode then IMVU will convert, and rename, all the Compressed Ascii Text Files from *.X*F Format to *.C*F Compressed Binary Format. This is the routine/ability that I jokingly gave the name 'Negative Change Derives' to in CCGen over 6 Months Ago.

In addition IMVU frequently run a Utility Program that goes through the Older CFL Files - Optimizing Them, a process that includes converting the Cal3d Files from Compressed Ascii Format to Compressed Binary Format to help reduce the amount of space they are taking up (or should that be wasting) on the IMVU Servers. _________________ Last edited by EnglishTiger_33488793_ret on Mon Aug 26, 2013 10:13 am; edited 1 time in total Keodi. The only file(s) I have that show up as shown in your screenie are ones associated with products IMVU themselves have made, all my own and other derived items resubmitted and edited are 'clean' (I've not even got anything showing up with file names containing 'chkn' as you shown in the latter screenie. Very odd indeed) _________________ Want to make items for IMVU?
