The full interview with Mica Paris appears in Reveal magazine, out today ‘I thought I looked gorgeous when I presented What Not To Wear. But now I can see my body was out of proportion,’ she told Reveal magazine.

‘I love being a woman and I love the fact my legs are as long as a building. But I’m not obsessed about being thin - I’m obsessed with being fit.’ Miss Paris, who shot to fame in 1988 with the release of her debut album So Good, eventually moved into television presenting.

In 2007 she took over from Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine as a co-presenter on BBC makeover reality show What Not To Wear. And last year she was a judge on Gok Wan’s Channel 4 show Miss Naked Beauty. But despite advising other women about their looks, Miss Paris has spent years battling her own weight demons. 'When I was younger if I had an album coming out I’d smoke a lot of fags, drink loads of coffee and basically starve myself to look good,’ she said. 'But by the time I hit 30, I was sick of yo-yo dieting. Starving myself was not enough to keep me slim any more, so I went to a nutritionist who told me to throw out all the bad carbs I was eating - bread, pasta and so on - and I lost a stone. ‘I was a size 16 but for the first time my weight stabilised.’ Despite getting her weight under control, eating healthily and working out twice a week, Miss Paris was still technically obese.

The ideal BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9. Anything between 30 and 39.9 is classed as obese. Miss Paris decided to take action in December last year and enlisted the help of Reveal magazine trainer Jacqueline Harvey.

‘She taught me how to train my body type. I have a lot of muscle and very dense bones,’ the singer explained. ‘My legs are really skinny, but my back is so big if I bulk up on weights I’ll end up looking massive, so now I only do crunches and weights once a week.

‘The rest of the time is cardio and body resistance training.’ Miss Paris also stuck to a protein and vegetable-based eating plan, cut down on alcohol and began doing four 90-minute workout sessions a week. Posing for Reveal magazine in a white bikini, the singer showed off her new figure, having gone from 15 stone 4lb to 13 stone 4lb in just four months. She also dropped two dress sizes, from a 16 to a 12, and reduced her BMI to 25. ‘I’m 40 now and I don’t want to lose my curves,’ Miss Paris said.
